AAAM Board Certification Examination Process
 
The AAAM Board Examination process consists of three parts; a
Written Exam, and a two-part Oral Exam.

Earning AAAM Board Certification requires candidates to successfully pass all three parts.

Failing any of the three-part examination process will require candidates to retake all three parts; there is a $500 re-sit fee.

Written and Oral Exam scores are not reviewed with the candidate.

Refunds to those who do not pass are not provided.

Written Exam

  • The written exam consists of 100 multiple choice questions. 
  • The exam must be completed in two hours.
  • Partial credit for correct answers is provided.  
  • Successful candidates must achieve at least 70% correct answers in order to advance to the two-part Oral Examination.

The written exam covers the following topics presented during the AAAM Level 1 Certificate, and Level 2 Diploma Courses:

Basic and Advanced Botox and Fillers

Aesthetic Dermatology

Lasers, IPLs, and Physical Peelings

Sclerotherapy and Pain Management

            Skin Conditioning and Chemical Peels

Oral Exam

Part 1

1.      Candidates will prepare a Powerpoint Presentation consisting of a minimum of five (5) slides and a maximum of (10 slides) highlighting two (2) patient case histories in Aesthetic Medicine, gathered from the physicians’ own clinical practice.  The case studies must be in two different areas.

Below is a possible list of areas that you could focus your case histories on based upon the AAAM Level 1  and 2 and Advanced Course curriculum:

Aesthetic Dermatology

Anti-aging/ Hormone Therapy

Botox injections

Fat/Stem Cell Transfer

Filler injections

Hair Management/Transplantation

Lasers, IPL or Radiofrequency devices

Liposuction

Nutrition and Obesity

Sclerotherapy

Skin Rejuvenation and/or Chemical Peeling

2.      Powerpoint must cover the following

a.      Patients’ case history

b.      Previous treatment if any

c.       Case Description

d.      Diagnosis

e.      Treatment performed with supporting arguments

f.        Side effects and complications

g.      Final results

h.      Long term follow up

i.        Before and after photos

The presentation will be sent to AAAM Business Manager at least three (3) weeks before the Board Exam to pre-review by the senior examiner.

Candidates will be required to present their Powerpoint presentation to a senior faculty member as part of the Oral Examination

Oral Exam Part 2

Each candidate will be provided with two powerpoint slides depicting a photograph of a patient. 

Candidates are provided with 15 minutes of preparatory time to assess and evaluate the patient’s condition, and recommend a course of treatment.

Candidates will present their assessment separately to two senior AAAM Faculty.
